Internship Support Fund

Dear Aggies and Friends of Aggies,

Internships have the power to change lives and open doors, offering relevant work experience that is almost as valuable as a degree. But for many NMSU students, financial barriers make these opportunities unattainable. You can help change this by contributing to the Aggie Internship Support Fund!

A vital tool in providing students with financial assistance for internship opportunities, the new cross-college Aggie Internship Support Fund assists students who need financial support to accept outstanding internship opportunities.

Senior government major Caren Davila Varela was one of 300 students selected for a U.S. Department of State internship in Washington, D.C. for fall 2023 — out of 3,500 applicants — and Caren was the only native New Mexican selected for the program.

During her 10-week internship, Caren worked for congressional advisors, taking meeting notes and researching issues and voting records for Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearings. “Being part of this gave me a sense of purpose and helped me confirm that I want a career in public service or social justice.”

Caren was fortunate that this was a paid internship; however, many equally outstanding internships are either nonpaid or do not pay enough to allow a student with limited means to accept. We invite you to help pave the way for ambitious students like Caren to access transformational internships that would otherwise be financially out of reach.
