it possible for me to attend.”

One major wasn’t enough for Zaira Martin. Neither were two … or three.
The Verano, New Mexico, native and William Conroy Honors College student graduated this May with four undergraduate degrees – in government, gender and sexuality studies, criminal justice, and Spanish – and is now pursuing her master’s in anthropology. She has goals of working for a nonprofit one day, or perhaps coming back to teach at New Mexico State University, the place where her dreams became a reality – thanks to you.
“As a first generation, working-class student, I was worried about putting a financial burden on my parents,” Zaira said. “The financial opportunities
here at NMSU, especially scholarships and the Dean’s Fund for Excellence, combined with work study made it possible for me to attend. I am very blessed.”
In addition to scholarships, the Dean’s Excellence Fund also supports student, faculty and staff development opportunities, as well as access to research data.
Zaira represents the best of NMSU – bright, devoted students who are eager to make a difference in the world. We’re so proud of what she has already accomplished and can’t wait to see where her future takes her.
